If this is your first time visiting us, you will be asked to fill out a client intake form before receiving one of our day spa services. The form asks for your contact information, employer, insurance plan provider and number, experiences with specific areas of pain, your preferences for draping and pressure and whether there is any specific need you want addressed during the session. The insurance plan information is required to determine if you qualify for a 20% - 25% discount offered by many health plan providers. Visit our discount page for a list of the health plan providers that we are affiliated with. The intake form helps to insure both of us are clear about what your expectations and goals for the session are. The information you provide helps the therapist determine what techniques to use and how to structure the session.
Next, you will be asked to remove your clothing. The therapist will leave the room to provide privacy while you undress. Some clients prefer to keep some clothing on while others will remove all their clothing. You should remove only as much as you are comfortable removing. A sheet, towel or blanket is provided for draping during the massage. Only the part of the body being worked on will be uncovered, insuring that modesty is respected at all times. You should also remove any jewelry or other articles that might interfere with the massage. Remember to turn off your cell phone!
The massage and body work services take place on a heated, padded massage table. Based on your needs, you will be instructed to which position to lie down on. The table has extra attachments, such as a face cradle (which allows you to lay in a face down position without turning your head and neck). If you don't like using the attachments, ask the therapist to remove it or do not use it. Bolsters are available for under your knees. Bolsters can help relieve pressure on your lower back while lying on the table during the massage.
Expect a peaceful and comfortable environment for your massage or body work session. We may play music during the session. If you don't like music playing, ask us to change the music or turn the music off. We do not expect you to talk during the massage or body work session. If you want to talk, that is fine, but don't feel obligated to.
Oil or lotion, which reduces drag on the skin, is used while performing the massage strokes. If you are allergic to some oils or lotions, be sure to tell the therapist so we can make sure the ingredients in the oil or lotion do not bother you. Hot stones, hot towels, stretching and tuning fork are frequently integrated into our massage therapy sessions depending on your specific needs.
We will massage either the full body or only specific areas that need attention depending on your needs. For example, general relaxation or stress reduction sessions usually include all the major areas of the body, while a session for a localized injury, pain, or tightness will be focused on a specific area. It is possible to spend most of an entire session on only one area. If there is anything that does not feel comfortable or right or you do not like, you have the right to ask to stop at any time.
After the massage is finished, you will once again be provided privacy in order to get dressed. After your session has ended, please feel free to ask any questions you have.
